Department for Work and Pensions

Deputy Director, Head of Digital, Design and Campaigns

Salary: Up to £85,000

Location: London

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in the largest Civil Service Department that touches the lives of citizens across the breadth of the UK. What we do matters. As the UK government’s largest public service provider, we help people into work, help disabled people live more independent lives, support with the cost of living, provide the financial foundation for a secure old age through the State Pension, and ensure children of separated parents have more opportunity to fulfil their potential through a better child maintenance system.

The Communications Directorate contributes to the successful delivery of major policy areas, from Universal Credit to automatic enrolment, as well as a £2 billion Kickstart Scheme, which puts young people at the heart of our economic recovery. We communicate through a range of marketing, press and public relations, digital and internal channels and partnership activities that are insight driven and robustly evaluated.

As the Deputy Director, Head of Digital, Design and Campaigns, you will lead a diverse team of communication professionals to deliver the Department’s campaigns in a creative and engaging way. As a leader, you will strengthen the team’s ability to deliver in house creative solutions, showcasing the Communications Directorate’s ambition and enhancing its creativity and digital innovation. You will work closely with a wide range of stakeholders, providing expertise to the Department in paid for and no/low-cost marketing and campaign delivery. As a professional communicator you will be an active member of the Government Communications Service.

This is a role that calls for an inspirational and successful senior communications leader with expertise in change management in a large organisation. You will bring deep insight into industry best practice and a track record  of delivering successful outcomes through innovative, insight-driven digital campaigns and integrated marketing strategies across a range of channels. Political understanding and judgement, exceptional experience in influencing senior leaders and colleagues and an agile mind that is capable of pivoting quickly as requirements change are key requirements for this role.

The mission of DWP, the value it adds to society and the sheer scale and ambition of the Department mean this has the potential to be a career defining role for the right candidate. If you are an inspirational leader with an impressive track record of driving increased productivity and performance through thought-provoking and engaging communications we would love to hear from you.

This opportunity provides a great chance to make a positive impact and deliver tangible benefits to make a real difference to millions of people every day.

Company

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for the Government's welfare reform agenda. Its aim is to promote opportunity and independence for all. It delivers support and advice through a modern network of services to people of working age, employers, pensioners, families and children and disabled people. The Department for Work and Pensions is the biggest government department. Over 100,000 people around the country work for us.

DWP has created a Communications Network throughout the Department, working to a single communications strategy with more integration, less duplication and better customer focus. It brings together the central Communications Directorate, the executive agencies and other communication functions throughout the department.

We operate through a number of different businesses to deliver the Government's policy of promoting opportunity and independence for all through work, where appropriate, or support for those unable to work. We help people to find jobs and employers to fill vacancies; we make payments to job-seekers, pensioners, disabled people, parents and carers. Most people in Britain will come into contact with us at some time in their lives.

The breadth of our work means we offer a wide range of career opportunities. We are proud of our diversity and equality policies. DWP is a Disability Symbol user, operating the Guaranteed Interview Scheme, and a New Deal employer.
