Freelance Women's Game Communications Manager

Wembley Stadium. 4 months fixed term contract

Our comms team are currently looking for freelance comms expertise, available immediately to support a significant peak of season activity over the coming months.

The role will be reporting to our Head of Media Relations and Head of Women's Football Communications.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Support Barclays WSL 2023/24 season planning, including playing a leading role in a marcomms season launch.
  • Working closely with Barclays WSL club press officers to execute proactive comms opportunities to promote the Barclays WSL during the FIFA Women's World Cup, driving interest and ticket sales.
  • Identifying communications opportunities to promote women's and girls' participation, coaching and refereeing during the FIFA Women's World Cup.
  • Play a leading role in the 'at home' FIFA Women's World Cup press office during the Lionesses' tournament campaign, identifying opportunities to promote the impact of the team in the tournament and working closely with media relations colleagues to respond to media enquiries.
  • Recognising opportunities for relevant FA spokespeople to discuss the growth of the women's and girls' game throughout the summer.
  • Close collaboration with FA channels to identify opportunities to promote the women's and girls' game across strategic priority areas.

Skillset required;

  • Experience at a communications manager level
  • A good understanding of the women's game
  • Good sports media relationships
  • Evidence of successful, high profile internal and external stakeholder management
  • Good written skills essential - role will include regular writing of media materials
  • Experience of issue management
  • Experience of working within a successful marcomms team

The successful candidate will be immediately available and be able to quickly acclimatise to the working environment and demands of the role based on their experience and expertise. This represents a great opportunity to work on pivotal events in the women's game as we plan for the next Barclays WSL season and take part in the FIFA Women's World Cup.
